Landscape design and installation in Eustis, FL
New planting beds, shrubs, rock and stone, clean borders and low-voltage lighting for Eustis homes, planned around one watering day a week and the shade your trees really cast.
What a landscaping job can include
- Bed designA layout for the spot: which beds stay, which grow, where the curves run, and what goes in each so it still fits once the plants reach full size.
- Plants and shrubsShrubs, ornamental grasses, groundcovers and accent plants set at the right depth and spaced for their mature width, not for an instant full look.
- Rock and decorative stoneRiver rock, gravel and decorative stone laid over landscape fabric, where mulch keeps washing out or a lower-care finish makes sense.
- Borders and curbingA defined edge between bed and lawn that holds stone and mulch in and keeps St. Augustine runners out.
- Landscape lightingLow-voltage path lights and uplights, covered further down this page.
Landscaping an oak-shaded street versus a new subdivision
In Eustis, the plan depends on which part of town the house sits in. Around downtown, Ferran Park and the historic district, lots sit under mature live oaks and laurel oaks. Beds there are planned for shade and for the spring leaf drop: shade-tolerant shrubs and groundcovers, and mulch rather than stone under the canopy, because oak leaves settle into rock and are a chore to get back out.
Out in the newer subdivisions, such as Black Bear Reserve, Pine Meadows Reserve and Spring Ridge Estates, the yard usually bakes in full sun, builder plantings are often a single row pressed against the foundation, and the ground can be packed fill. Those beds get sun-hardy plants, room to grow away from the wall, and loosened soil before anything goes in.
Low-maintenance landscaping ideas for Eustis sand
The low-maintenance approach UF/IFAS teaches is called Florida-Friendly Landscaping: right plant, right place, plants grouped by how much water they need, and mulch to hold moisture. It matters more than usual here. Eustis has a soil series named after it, a sand classed as somewhat excessively drained, so water passes through fast, and a bed that mixes thirsty and drought-hardy plants on one zone leaves some of them always too wet or too dry.
Once rooted, muhly grass, coontie, dwarf yaupon holly, Walter’s viburnum and American beautyberry generally get by on a weekly watering. Grass that keeps failing in deep shade or on a dry slope is often better turned into a planted bed than resodded every few years.
Rock or mulch: where each belongs
Decorative stone doesn’t rot, so it earns its place along the driveway, in side yards around the AC unit, and under roof edges where rain splashes mulch out of the bed. It also soaks up heat and throws it back onto nearby plants and walls, and it adds nothing to the soil.
Pine bark and pine straw keep roots cooler and slowly feed the sand as they break down, which is why planting beds and tree rings usually get mulch. Plenty of Eustis yards end up with both: stone along the hardscape, mulch where things grow. The mulch installation page covers that side of the job.
Low-voltage landscape lighting
We install low-voltage landscape lighting: LED path lights along walks, uplights into an oak canopy or a palm, and soft wash lights across the front of the house. A transformer with a timer or photocell plugs into an existing outdoor outlet, and the cable runs in a shallow trench through the beds, kept clear of irrigation lines.
We don’t do line-voltage wiring. If the yard needs a new outdoor outlet or circuit for the transformer, a licensed electrician handles that part before the fixtures go in.
Watering new plants under the current Eustis rules
New plantings get an establishment allowance under the Phase III water shortage order (Order 2026-017) from the St. Johns River Water Management District: any day for the first 15 days, up to three days a week for the next 30, then two days a week for the final 15. After that they move onto your regular day (odd-numbered addresses on Saturday, even-numbered addresses on Sunday). No irrigation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m..
If a new bed needs its own zone or drip line so it isn’t sharing water with the lawn, that is part of our sprinkler and irrigation work.
What landscaping costs, and how the price is built
Landscaping has no flat rate, because no two beds hold the same plants or stone. The price starts from your address: bed areas and border lengths are measured from Lake County parcel records and recent aerial imagery, then the plant list and materials are added. You get one fixed price for the job, and if we already mow for you, it goes on the same invoice with the same crew doing the work.

More yard work in Eustis
Lawn mowing
A fixed weekday, the right cut height, crisp edges and a clean driveway. Weekly through the warm months, every second week in winter.
Sod installation
Dead or patchy turf cut out, the ground graded, and new St. Augustine, Bahia or Zoysia laid with tight seams, then watered in on the extra days Eustis allows for new grass.
Sprinkler repair
Heads spraying the street, a zone that won’t shut off, dry patches, a timer still set to last year’s days: found, fixed and reprogrammed for the rules Eustis is under now.
Lawn aeration
Hollow tines pull small plugs of soil from compacted turf so water, air and roots can get back down. Worth it where a Eustis lawn takes traffic, and timed for when the grass can recover.
Lawn fertilization
St. Augustine and Bahia fed when they can use it, with slow-release nitrogen, measured rates and a blower in hand so nothing ends up on the pavement or in the lakes.
Yard cleanup
Turning an overgrown Eustis yard back into a lawn: tall grass brought down safely, beds weeded, edges recovered and the debris taken away.
Hedge trimming
Privacy hedges shaped so they stay thick to the ground, foundation shrubs pulled back off the house, and flowering plants cut at the right time of year.
Mulch
Weeds out and bed lines cut before anything is spread, then a proper layer of mulch that stays clear of tree trunks and the foundation.
Leaf cleanup
Eustis oaks shed in late winter and spring, just as lawns start growing again. We clear the turf, beds and paving and take the leaves away.
Palm trimming
Brown fronds, seed stalks and loose boots taken off. The green crown stays, because it is how the palm feeds itself.
HOA & commercial
Association common areas, community entrances, pond banks, offices and storefronts, maintained to a written scope for one set monthly price.
