Which fertilizer rules apply in Eustis

The rule depends on whether your address is inside Eustis city limits or in unincorporated Lake County. We follow the one that covers your address, and by default we hold every lawn to the county standard:

  • June 1 to September 30No nitrogen or phosphorus on turf. Summer blends of micronutrients with no N or P are allowed.
  • 15 feet from waterA fertilizer-free zone within 15 feet of any pond, stream, lake, canal or wetland, all year.
  • October 1 to May 31Nitrogen at least 50% slow-release.

Every application is made under Florida’s fertilizer application rules and the local code that covers your address.

Why slow-release nitrogen matters on Eustis sand

The Eustis soil series, named for the city, is a sand that drains fast. Quick-release nitrogen moves through it quickly, past the roots and toward groundwater and the Harris Chain of Lakes. That is why UF/IFAS recommends slow-release nitrogen on sandy Central Florida soils, and why the rate per application matters more here than on heavier ground.

What month to fertilize a lawn in Eustis

Warm-season turf uses nitrogen while it is actively growing. The first feeding goes down in spring once St. Augustine or Bahia has greened up, and the next after the summer window closes, in October. From June through September the lawn gets only a micronutrient blend with no N or P, if it needs anything at all.

Feeding dormant winter turf mostly feeds weeds and the water table, so we don’t do it.

What fertilizer a Eustis lawn needs

  • St. AugustineThe hungriest common lawn grass here, fed with mostly slow-release nitrogen on the spring and fall schedule.
  • BahiaNeeds less nitrogen than St. Augustine and tolerates low-fertility sand, so it gets lighter feedings.
  • PhosphorusOnly when a soil test shows the lawn is short, as UF/IFAS recommends.
  • No weed-and-feedWeed control is a separate, licensed pest-control service and isn’t part of our work.

How we keep fertilizer out of the lakes

  • Buffer firstThe 15-foot fertilizer-free zone along lakes, ponds, canals and wetlands is set before the spreader comes out.
  • Hard surfacesGranules that land on driveways, sidewalks and curbs are blown back onto the turf before we leave.
  • WeatherNo application ahead of heavy rain in the forecast.

Watering it in

Fertilizer is applied so it can be watered in on your regular day under the Phase III water shortage order (Order 2026-017) from the St. Johns River Water Management District: odd-numbered addresses on Saturday, even-numbered addresses on Sunday. No irrigation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Eustis watering schedule has the details.

Under the Lake County standard, no closer than 15 feet to any pond, stream, lake, canal or wetland. We keep that buffer on every Eustis lawn.
No. Weed control needs a pest-control license and isn’t part of the service, and we don’t use weed-and-feed products.
